About the Poetry Contest

The Island Poetry Contest is part of our local celebration of April as National Poetry Month.

All students attending grades K – 12 in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores or who use the sponsoring libraries as their main library are invited to enter. 

Prizes will be awarded by grade level on the basis of individual merit. The first prize is $50, second is $35 and third is $25.  Any poetic form will be accepted.  

This contest is  sponsored by:
Orange Beach Public Library, Friends of the Orange Beach Public Library, Thomas B. Norton Public Library, Friends of Thomas B. Norton Public Library

Winning poems will be chosen based on these criteria:

- Theme development
- Creative use of language
- Appeal to senses

Judges decisions are final.

All entries for the 2008 contest must be submitted on or before Friday, March 14.


Your poem should be typed or printed on standard printer paper and must have an entry form attached.  Entry forms are available online or at sponsoring public libraries and participating schools in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.  Return your entry to your library in person or by mail.
